theatrical design

Paula Vogel’s story explores an unhealthy but formative relationship between a young girl and her uncle as he teaches her how to drive a car. Essentially a memory play, the story required a lighting treatment that would convey the surreal distance with which the main character recounts her past while drawing out the deep underlying emotions within each vignette. An essential dichotomy between subtle warmth and alienating cold tones defined the design.
