theatrical design

Tim J. Lord reimagines Antigone and The Bacchae in the American Midwest, combining magical and ritual elements with day to day life in the small town of Thebes, IL. The lighting design was largely based on “heightened realism,” (pardon the loaded term) incorporating a generally subdued color palette and strong angles. The supernatural elements were typically subtle intensifications of the naturalistic elements, rather than overt departures, in order to keep the audience suspended between skepticism and belief.
