Lucy Thurber’s meditative play alternates seamlessly between the harsh, gritty reality of New York and the idyllic beauty of a simpler time in the Appalachian mountains as the protagonist copes with the loss of her sister. Naomi Kasahara’s set juxtaposed softer, more organic elements to represent the past against the modern loft-like architecture of the theatre. The lighting design echoed these choices, with the distinction between an edgier, cooler present and a warmer past becoming increasingly blurred as the play goes on.
